Ο Vettel διευρύνει το προβάδισμά του στο πρωτάθλημα, ενώ ο Hamilton αδυνατεί να ανταπαντήσει. Ο γερμανός ξεκίνησε τον αγώνα από τη δεύτερη θέση, αλλά αυτό δεν τον προβλημάτισε και τόσο, αφού φέτος έχει αποδείξει ότι κάνει σαφώς καλύτερες εκκίνησεις από ότι ο βρετανός, που κατείχε την Pole position. Έτσι, ο Vettel πριν την πρώτη στροφή ήταν πρώτος, με τον οδηγό της Mercedes να χάνει μία θέση και από τον Bottas, ενώ μερικές στροφές πιο μετά τον κοπάνησε και ο Raikkonen, με αποτέλεσμα να χάσει ακόμα περισσότερες θέσεις. Θριαμβευτής στον Καναδά ήταν ο Vettel που ξεκίνησε από την pole position και ουσιαστικά δεν απειλήθηκε από κανέναν. Βέβαια, μιλάμε για ακόμα ένα βαρετό αγώνα, αφού μόνο μία αλλαγή σημειώθηκε στους 7 πρώτους πιλότους. Για την ακρίβεια, οι 7 πρώτοι τερμάτισαν με την ίδια σειρά που ξεκίνησαν, με μοναδική εξαίρεση τον Ricciardo που εκμεταλλεύτηκε τη στρατηγική των pit stop και από 6ος που ξεκίνησε είδε 4ος την καρό σημαία (με το οριστικό της πέσιμο και όχι το λανθασμένο ένα γύρο νωρίτερα).
