Mixed conditions... and feelings The drivers of Williams made a brilliant start and took by surprise the drivers of Mercedes. Massa and Bottas qualified in positions 3 and 4, but they were first and second respectively during the first stint. Hamilton was the first to stop for a tire change and after that he had no one in front of him, so he could pick up the pace. The strategy was successful and the Briton was the leader, after the first round of pit stops. The victory was gone for Williams, but more drama was on the way. Rain started at the last stint and Rosberg drove fearlessly and passed both Massa and Bottas. With the rain getting stronger, all drivers switched to Intermediates. Own goal from Hamilton's team Hamilton was heading for his fourth victory this year, but a misjudgement by his team forced him to finish third. 14 laps were remaining, when rookie Verstappen -after a few unfair passes- was trying to pass Grosjean, but hit the French and crashed into the barriers. Hamilton's team called him into the pits for a tire change, just to be on the safe side, while the safety car was deployed. They thought there was enough time for him to return to track in front of his rivals. But there wasn't... Hamilton is still leading the championship, but he lost a great opportunity to win the most prestigious GP of the calendar and extend his lead.
